The Foundation of Dyeing & Intro to Kettle Dyeing

This class will teach you everything you need to know about what tools, tips, tricks and the foundational education you need to begin your journey in dyeing yarns and fibers and more. The Foundation of Dyeing is a prerequisite for both Intro workshops at alk&me studio.

After our Foundations class we will continue to the basics of kettle dyeing. You will learn to make swatches, learn how to dye solid and tonal yarns, and learn how to set your colors.

All materials will be provided for this class and are included in the class fee. You will leave the class with 5 completed skeins of kettle dyed yarn and have the opportunity to purchase natural yarns for future dye products of your own!

Class fee: $195

(50% non-refundable)

Currently ALL classes are offered in the mornings on an individual basis.

Intro to Kettle Dyeing- Variegated Colorways

This Kettle Dyeing Class is part 2 in our Kettle Dyeing Series. This class will teach you everything you need to know about what tools, tips, tricks and the foundational education you need to begin your journey in dyeing yarns and fibers and more. The Foundation of Dyeing is a prerequisite for both Intro workshops at alk&me studio. During our workshop we will cover at least 3 ways to dye variegated yarns, though usually it’s 5! We go in depth on high water table vs low water table, stock solutions, WOF/WOG, and you leave with 5 beautifully dyed skeins of yarn!

The cost of this class is $195.

($50 non-refundable per person)

Currently ALL classes are offered in the mornings on an individual basis.

NOTE: I do offer a 2-day session for those interested where we do both classes over a 2-day period and also if there is an interest in a variety of base yarns, I can accommodate though the price will change per person due to the change of yarn bases. I can do the 2-day series over a weekend or during the week. Groups of friends or guilds are encouraged to reach out for a group class! I am always working with groups to customize needs and offer a two day workshop for those wishing to be fully immersed in the world of dyeing!

Dyeing Roving The Right Way

Come spend the day at alk&me studio and learn what I consider the right way to dye roving! We will cover a bit about Depth of Shade, Water Ratios, and Stock Solutions. We will cover the 3 different ways that I dye roving: Low & Slow Summer Method, Low & Slow Winter Method and "I Needed it Yesterday" Method. All 3 methods will give you wonderful felt free fibers for spinning! And dyeing roving is not just a thing for our spinners out there but also AWESOME for our felters and weavers alike!!!!

Lots of fun to be had!

Currently ALL classes are offered in the mornings on an individual basis.

Cost of the class is $195.00

($50 non-refundable)

Tri & Dye

Ever wanted to make your own tri-loom (continuous strand/pin loom) neck shawl?? Ever wanted to make one that you could dye in almost any way you wanted?? Now you can! In this class we are going to create a very unique neck shawl using 3' and 4' looms where we use a combination of amazing yarns, including my award winning (lol) handspun art yarn to create a masterpiece for the ages!! To take this class you need to have taken a tri-loom class and have a basic understanding of how to use a tri-loom.

If you have your own tri-loom, please bring it to the class. I would prefer 3' and 4' looms but if you are adept at the tri-loom you may bring your 5' loom as well. If you have a stand for your loom, you may bring that as it will be helpful to you throughout the day.

I will have some 3' & 4' looms on site for use, however those are limited so please let me know if you will need a loom for that day!

The cost of the class is $195.

($50 non-refundable)

Currently ALL classes are offered in the mornings on an individual basis.

For the LOVE of Speckles!

You’ve been to fiber shows and seen the speckled yarns… the variations and colorways made with speckling yarns are utterly beautiful and turn ordinary projects into works of art! If you’ve ever wanted to try the technique just for fun or if you’re an ever inspired indie dyer that just needs a little nudge in the right direction, this workshop is for you! Speckling yarn is so much fun even in its’ unpredictability!!

This workshop will provide you with all of the materials and tools you need to accomplish dyeing 5 skeins of yarn with a few tips, tricks and techniques that will have you wanting more!!

The cost of the class is $195.

($50 non-refundable)

Currently ALL classes are offered in the mornings on an individual basis.
